Psalm 27:1-3
1 Yahweh is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When evildoers came at me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell. 3 Though an army should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear. Though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident. (WEB) The more that we know that we are loved by God, the more we will become fearless. Proverbs 28:1 says... The wicked flee when no one pursues; but the righteous are as bold as a lion. (WEB) When I was a little boy, I could be easily intimidated by bigger boys, especially bullies. But when my big brother or my dad was with me, I felt a boldness that I didn't feel when I was on my own. In today's Bible reading, King David declares that because of the Lord's love for him, he had nothing to fear. This was not just empty words that David declared because the Bible is filled with stories telling of the times that David put his money where his mouth was. First there was a bear, then a lion. Then there was a giant. Then an entire Philistine army. The more that he got to know the Lord, the bolder he became. My prayer today is that we would all feel the boldness of a lion that comes from knowing we are loved. I pray that we would all know that our dwelling place is in the secret place of the Most High (Psalm 91) where no one can harm us. May every form of fear be displaced from our hearts by the overwhelming, eternal, secure love of our Heavenly Father. May each one of us echo the words of David in Psalm 27 and say with him... The Lord is my light and my salvation and the strength of my life. Whom shall I fear? 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love. (WEB) Comments are closed.
