AUGUST 3
HEIRS ACCORDING TO HOPE
Titus 3:4-7
But when the kindness of God our Savior and his love toward mankind appeared, not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly, through Jesus Christ our Savior; that, being justified by his grace, we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. There is no greater expression of the Father's love than when Jesus came to earth two thousand years ago and dwelt among us. That is why the Apostle Paul describes Jesus as 'the kindness of God our Savior and his love,' as he states in this Scripture passage. Looking at Jesus was just like looking at His Father (John 14:9). He was the exact image of the invisible God in human form (Colossians 1:15), and everything Jesus did reflected the character of Almighty God.
As today's Scripture states, through the work on the cross, we have been saved, washed, regenerated, and renewed by the Holy Spirit, who has been poured out on us abundantly. We have been justified by faith through grace, and now we are heirs of God for eternity. I don't know about you, but the reality of our hope is far beyond my ability to understand with my human mind fully.
My prayer today is that the Holy Spirit who dwells within us would make the truth of today's Scripture reading more real to us than ever before. May the Spirit of Wisdom and Revelation open the eyes of our hearts so we can truly understand the vastness of our inheritance in Christ (Ephesians 1:17-18).
May we all realize today more than ever that we have been saved, washed, regenerated, renewed, justified, and made heirs of God both now and forever. Not because we have done anything to earn or deserve God's love, but simply because of the finished work of our elder brother, Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!
Ephesians 1:15-18
For this cause I also, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which is among you, and the love which you have toward all the saints, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, (WEB)
