FATHER'S NAME
Revelation 14:1
I saw, and behold, the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him a number, one hundred forty-four thousand, having his name, and the name of his Father, written on their foreheads. (WEB)
I don't feel qualified to explain the Book of Revelation. Most of it is a mystery to me, and I’ll leave it to more knowledgeable brothers and sisters in the faith to interpret. However, today's Bible reading stood out to me for a specific reason.
I won't attempt to analyze the significance of the one hundred forty-four thousand people standing with Jesus on Mount Zion. The only detail in this verse I want to emphasize is that each of them bore the name of Jesus and His Father's name written on their foreheads.
A person's name is important. It forms part of their identity and how others perceive them. When the Father and the Son write their name on our foreheads, they declare that we belong to God. We carry their identity within us. We remain unique in how we were created, but now we are united with Christ, who is united with His Father. As Jesus said in John 17:23... 'I in them and you in me.’
Today, I pray that we all know that God Himself has named us. We bear His mark in our hearts for the spiritual realm to see. We are no longer slaves or orphans trying to find an identity apart from the one given to us by our Father and our big brother. May the identity we have received from God bring us into a deeper sense of rest and peace, knowing that we belong to the most incredible family in the universe.
Ephesians 3:14-15
14 For this cause, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, (WEB)
