GLORY FROM THE FATHER
2 Peter 1:16-18
16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” 18 We heard this voice come out of heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain. There have been many descriptions of the glory of God throughout the Bible, but this is one of my most favorite ones! In today's Scripture reading, Peter is recounting his time on the Mount of Transfiguration where Moses and Elijah appeared to Jesus.
It is interesting to note that Peter tells us that Jesus received honor and glory from His Father when He heard these words spoken... "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased". When Moses asked to see God's glory in Exodus, the Lord answered by saying "I will let My goodness pass by". While the glory of God can be described many ways, it seems like the best way to describe God's glory is by describing His character.
The glory that Jesus received from His Father was imparted to Him when He heard His Father say (in my paraphrased words)... You are My Son, whom I love with all My heart. You belong to Me and I am pleased with your life!. I believe that this is the same glory that we are destined to live in as well when we hear our Father say the same words to us.
My prayer today is that we would all know that our heavenly Father has imparted to us infinite value when He calls us His beloved children. May the glory of the Lord that rested upon Jesus, rest upon us as well as we live each day in the love that God has for us.
2 Corinthians 3:17-18
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit. (WEB)
