GREATER IS HE THAT IS IN YOU
1 John 4:4
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. (WEB)
I find it interesting that in the same sentence that the Apostle John tells us that we are little children that belong to God, he also says that we are overcomers. If we try to understand this picture with a worldly mindset, it will not make sense. How can little children be overcomers? After all, they are weak and helpless in their own natural abilities.
Of course, the answer to this question is found in the last half of today' Bible verse... because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. We overcome because of the greatness of our God that lives within us. Though we are small in heart, our God and Father is absolutely HUGE! When we humble ourselves like a child (Matthew 18:1-4), the strength of God can easily be manifested in our lives.
It is only when we try to be strong in our own self-effort that we get into trouble. As the Apostle Paul realized at one point in his life in 2 Corinthians 12:10...For when I am weak, then am I strong. My prayer today is that we would all know that greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world! We win not because of our own ability to manage life, but because of the greatness of our God that lives within us.
May we all see all the incredible benefits that are part of our inheritance simply because we are God's kids. We don't have to strive for them, we don't have to earn them, they are simply part of our birthright as joint heirs with our Elder Brother, Jesus. We are overcomers because He overcame!
John 16:33
I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have oppression; but cheer up! I have overcome the world.” (WEB)
