KNOWING THE FATHER
John 8:19
They said therefore to him, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me, nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” (WEB)
Today's Bible verse is part of a conversation that Jesus was having with the religious leaders of His day. The Pharisees were being very argumentative with Jesus and challenging where He came from. Their tone was sarcastic in nature when they asked Him "Where is your Father?"
This is yet another example where Jesus revealed the unity that He enjoyed with His Heavenly Father. He bluntly told them that they neither knew Him or His Father because if they really knew Jesus, they would know His Father as well.
In John 14, we read of another conversation that Jesus had with His disciples where the topic "Show us the Father" (John 14:8) came up. Because His disciples were being sincere in wanting to see the Father, Jesus wasn't harsh in His answer to them. But the answer was still the same... If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father. (John 14:9)
For anyone who is struggling to know what God the Father is like, take note of what Jesus is saying here. If you know Jesus, you know His Father as well. Both Father and Son are so united in heart that it is impossible to separate them. Everything that Jesus did on earth was the exact representation of His Dad (Hebrews 1:3).
My prayer today is for those who feel distant from Father God. If you struggle to relate to Him as your Father, maybe because of broken earthly father issues, look no further than Jesus to find out what the Father is like. When you have received Jesus, you have received His Father as well!
1 John 2:23
Whoever denies the Son, the same doesn’t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also. (WEB)
