GOD'S LOVE PERFECTED IN US
1 John 4:12-13
No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God remains in us, and his love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we remain in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. (WEB)
Jesus says in John 4:24... God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (WEB) I believe what Jesus was saying here is that our point of contact with God is in the realm of our spirit and not in the realm of our flesh. The Apostle John reiterates this in today's reading by saying that 'No one has seen God at any time'.
Though we cannot physically see Him, today's Bible reading tells us that we can still experience His love in the way that we love each other. John tells us that when we love each other, God remains in us, and his love has been perfected in us. The NIV Bible says... his love is made complete in us. (NIV)
My prayer today is that we would all encounter the rich, extravagant love of God through our daily interaction with each other. May we become so in tune with the rhythm of the Holy Spirit that lives within us, that we would yield to His abiding presence and let His love spill out of us onto every person we meet.
While the people who lived in Jesus' time could not see God and live, they had the unique opportunity to experience the Father's love through the life of Jesus. God's love was made complete in the life of His Son. Everything that Jesus did was an expression of His Father's heart.
Now that we have been joined with Jesus, we too have the same opportunity to be an expression of our Father's heart in the way that we love one another. May we all learn to simply abide in the love that God has for us and in turn see His love perfected as we share His love with those we meet.
John 15:9-10
9 Even as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and remain in his love. (WEB)
