GOD'S LOVE PERFECTED IN US
1 John 4:12-13
No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God remains in us, and his love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we remain in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. (WEB)
Jesus says in John 4:24... God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (WEB) I believe what Jesus was saying here is that our point of contact with God is in the realm of our spirit rather than our flesh. The Apostle John reiterates this in today's reading by stating that 'No one has seen God at any time'.
Though we cannot physically see Him, today's Bible reading shows that we can still experience His love through the way we love one another. John tells us that when we love each other, God stays in us, and His love is made perfect in us. The NIV Bible says... His love is made complete in us. (NIV)
My prayer today is that we all encounter the rich, abundant love of God through our daily interactions with one another. May we become so aligned with the rhythm of the Holy Spirit within us that we yield to His constant presence and let His love flow out of us to everyone we meet.
While the people living in Jesus' time couldn't see God and live, they had the unique chance to experience the Father's love through Jesus' life. God's love was perfectly shown in His Son. Everything Jesus did was a reflection of His Father's heart.
Now that we are united with Jesus, we too have the opportunity to reflect our Father's heart through how we love one another. May we all learn to simply abide in the love that God has for us and, in turn, see His love perfected as we share His love with those we meet.
John 15:9-10
9 Even as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and remain in his love. (WEB)
