THE SPIRIT OF SONSHIP
Galatians 4:3-7
3 So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental principles of the world. 4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law, 5 that he might redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of children. 6 And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!” 7 So you are no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. As we enter this new year of new opportunities, may we all be reminded of the true meaning of the gospel. We who were once slaves to sin and separated from God, are now transformed into being part of God's family. Because of the finished work of Jesus Christ, we are no longer slaves, but children of the living God. May the reality of this promise cause joy to well up in our hearts so that we would cry out 'Abba, Father!'
My prayer today is that we would know in increasing measure what it means to be an heir of our Heavenly Dad. In Romans 8:15, Paul the Apostle tells us that we have not been given a spirit that makes us a slave to fear, but we have been given the Spirit of Sonship.
May the Spirit of Sonship rest upon each one of us today as we know who we truly are and as we look with anticipation of all that God wants to do through His kids in this new year.
Romans 8:15-17
15 For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God; 17 and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.
