FOOD THAT WILL LAST FOREVER
John 6:27
Don’t work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has sealed him. (WEB)
In today's Scripture passage, Jesus reminds the crowd about the true priorities in life. There is food that we can work for that may satisfy us today but will be gone tomorrow. Then, there is food for the eternal life that Jesus promised. Similarly, Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:19-21 that we should store treasures in heaven for ourselves rather than try to amass them on earth.
In some ways, we might see working for 'eternal food' or storing up 'treasures in heaven' as a sacrifice because we may not experience their tangible benefits now. While that may be true, I pray that we will all begin to see more and more with an eternal mindset in all we do.
In John 4:34, Jesus told His disciples... “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. (WEB). His focus was always on the eternal and the things that would please His Father. May each of us find deep satisfaction in partaking in the food that will last forever when we do our Heavenly Father's work here on earth.
2 Corinthians 4:18
while we don’t look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (WEB)
