APRIL 14
THE GOOD SHEPHERD
John 10:14-16
14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and I’m known by my own; 15 even as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep, which are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will hear my voice. They will become one flock with one shepherd. (WEB)
Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, our friend and redeemer, is many things to us. He is our elder brother, the captain of our salvation, and the bridegroom of the church. He is also the good shepherd who knows everyone who belongs to Him.
In today's reading, Jesus describes our relationship with Him as similar to the one He has with His Father. He knows us completely, loves us completely, and, most amazing of all, we can know Him completely, too (John 17:3).
Today, I pray that we will know just how much God loves us. The good shepherd was willing to exchange His life for our life so that we could be completely reconciled and restored to His Father's eternal plan and purpose for our lives. May our hearts respond to His love by seeking to know Him more today than we have ever known Him.
Hebrews 13:20-21
20 Now may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep with the blood of an eternal covenant, our Lord Jesus,21 make you complete in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. (WEB)
