MAY 7
AN ETERNAL INHERITANCE
Psalm 37:18-19
18 Yahweh knows the days of the perfect. Their inheritance shall be forever. 19 They shall not be disappointed in the time of evil. In the days of famine they shall be satisfied. (WEB)
In today's global economy, nothing is certain. No matter how secure our investments might be, they are subject to a frail world market. No pension or inheritance is truly safe and secure. That is why it is so important not to trust these things, for one day, they may fail.
Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 6:19-21 the following about the difference between temporal and eternal riches... 19 “Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal; 21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (WEB)
In today's Bible passage, we read that the inheritance of the righteous will last forever. Nothing in all creation can take away from you what God has freely given to you! No matter how our lives ebb and flow this side of heaven, one thing is for certain: Our eternal inheritance is secure.
Today, I pray that we will all be able to embrace the peace that passes understanding amid an uncertain world. May we all have the assurance that we have an eternal inheritance that will never fade away simply because we are God's kids. May the Holy Spirit give us all the wisdom to navigate through turbulent times.
As Jesus told us in John 16:33...
I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have oppression; but cheer up! I have overcome the world.” (WEB)
