WHEN WE WAIT, WE INHERIT
Psalm 37:8-9
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath. Don’t fret, it leads only to evildoing. 9 For evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for Yahweh shall inherit the land. (WEB)
In the world system, you have to initiate to make gains in life. In the kingdom of God, waiting on the Lord and trusting in Him is the best promotion method. I am not saying that we should become lazy or inactive as Christians but rather adopt a heart posture where we are always sensitive to the Holy Spirit's leading in our daily lives (Romans 8:14).
When we wait upon God, we yield control of our lives into His loving hands. When we wait for the Spirit to lead us, we acknowledge the Lordship of Christ and stop trying to be the captain of our own ship. In today's Scripture reading, we are told to stop being angry and not to worry about life. Could you imagine how much free space you would have in your thought life if you didn't have to worry?
Some of us might not even think it is possible not to worry. Some of us have even been taught that worry is a sign of responsibility. When I was growing up, I thought if I didn't worry, then I didn't care. In Matthew 6:24, Jesus tells us not even to take one thought for our life. He says that because of our Father's great love for us, He will look after all our needs so we don't have to.
Today, I pray that we will become more convinced that our heavenly Father works on our behalf in every circumstance. I pray that the peace that passes our understanding will settle upon us like a warm blanket and bring rest to our busy minds. May we all see the incredible joy in ceasing from our own works, learning to rest in the Lord, and waiting patiently for Him so that we can inherit the promised land.
