THE ABBA CRY
At the most difficult time in Jesus' life, He cried out to His Father, calling Him 'Abba'.' Abba' is an Aramaic word that is the simplest way for little children to call out to their father. It would be like calling out 'Papa' or 'Daddy' in English.
I find it interesting that at the most mature moment in the Son's life on earth when He had to say yes to His Father's cup and take upon Himself the weight of the world, He cried out, 'Papa!' I believe His childlike cry to His Father for help shows how dependent He was on His Father in every way.
Can you imagine how this desperate cry from a broken son, who was sweating great drops of blood as a result of the immense stress He was suffering, would have touched His Father's heart? For those of us who have children ourselves... How would you feel if you saw one of your own children in such anguish?
We cannot fathom the pain and suffering our Lord and Savior endured on our behalf. May the reality of His cry out to His Abba in this time of despair be a small reminder of the incomprehensible price He paid for our redemption.
