A COMPASSIONATE FATHER
Psalm 103:13-14
13 Like a father has compassion on his children, so Yahweh has compassion on those who fear him. 14 For he knows how we are made. He remembers that we are dust. (WEB)
God intended that mothers and fathers would foreshadow His everlasting love for us. That is why King David makes the connection between a loving earthly father who has compassion for his children and God's love for us. Unfortunately, many people have not had positive experiences with their earthly fathers, so comparing God to a father is not always helpful.
But the truth is that God is the perfect Father who loves us perfectly. The issue isn't with Him; the issue is with the broken father figures we have experienced due to the fall. My prayer today is that the Holy Spirit would restore the rightful image of Father God to each one of us. I pray that we would truly know that God is a loving Father who cares for His kids when they are hurting.
He doesn't judge His children or condemn them. In His heart, He remembers how He made Adam out of the dust all those years ago, and in remembering our human frailty, He has overwhelming compassion for us. My prayer today is that we would not run away from God when we are hurting, but we would run towards Him because He understands us through and through.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (WEB)
