EVIDENCE OF SONSHIP
Romans 8:14
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God. (WEB)
The evidence that we are growing in our sonship to our heavenly Father is that the Spirit of God leads us. If we consider what it means to be led, we will better understand this Bible verse.
Simply put, to be led means that someone else (other than you) is doing the leading! To be led means that we assume a posture of waiting to be led. In the 40 years that the Israelites wandered in the wilderness, the presence of God was in their midst in the form of a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. When God moved, they moved. When God stayed still, they rested and waited.
This can be challenging in a world system that applauds self-sufficiency, initiative, and independence. When we learn to live a life of waiting to be led by the Spirit of God, we will only move when He moves. I don't know about you, but this has been quite challenging for me at times. I can easily get impatient and want to move when God is not moving. The result is usually me creating wood, hay, and stubble.
But the Spirit of God is so loving and merciful that He always gives me another chance to follow His leading. Today, I pray we will see the many benefits of simply following. May God give us the wisdom to discern when we are trying to lead and when He wants us to follow.
1 John 2:27
As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him. (WEB)
