CLOTHED WITH POWER
Luke 24:49
Behold, I send forth the promise of my Father on you. But wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high.” (WEB)
The promise of our Father is His precious Holy Spirit. Just after Jesus' resurrection and before His ascension, He told His disciples to wait for God's gift of the indwelling Spirit. I like how Jesus said that the result of the infilling of the Holy Spirit would be that we would be clothed with power from on high.
What a contrast from the clothing that Adam and Eve try to cover their nakedness in the garden when they used fig leaves! God has covered every believer with His Spirit and promised to exchange our shame for a double portion of our inheritance (Isaiah 61:7).
My prayer today is that we would all be reminded that we wear the royal robes that come from God Himself. We are clothed with Christ Himself (Galatians 3:27). When you look in the mirror today, why not ask the Holy Spirit to help you see past your earthly garments to see the heavenly ones that will last forever truly?
2 Corinthians 5:1-4
1 For we know that if the earthly house of our tent is dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens. 2 For most certainly in this we groan, longing to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven; 3 if so be that being clothed we will not be found naked. 4 For indeed we who are in this tent do groan, being burdened; not that we desire to be unclothed, but that we desire to be clothed, that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
