THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD
Psalm 23
1 Yahweh is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in Yahweh’s house forever. (WEB)
A young shepherd boy named David learned a priceless lesson while caring for his father's flock. By loving, protecting, and risking his life for the sheep, David discovered something about the heart of God. ...He has the heart of a shepherd, too!
In Hebrews 13:20, Jesus is referred to as the Great Shepherd of His sheep. In John 10, Jesus explains how His sheep recognize His voice and always follow Him. In verse 11, Jesus even states that the shepherd sacrifices his own life for the sheep.
No matter where we go or what we do, God's shepherding heart is watching over us. He provides for us, protects us, and restores us. May this revelation go deeper into all of our hearts today. We are not alone in this world, for we live every day under the care of the Great Shepherd.
Hebrews 13:20-21
20 Now may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep with the blood of an eternal covenant, our Lord Jesus, 21 make you complete in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. (WEB)
