MARCH 31
SACRIFICIAL LOVE
John 10:17-18
17 Therefore the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down by myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. I received this commandment from my Father.” (WEB)
No one took Jesus' life from Him. He gladly laid down His life on His own accord. In the Garden of Gethsemane, when the soldiers came to arrest Him, Jesus told them that He could call out to His Father even then and He would have been rescued by a legion of angels.
So it was Jesus and Jesus alone who chose to die on our behalf and He did it all for love's sake. Hallelujah! What a Savior! And not only did He have the power to lay down His life, but He had the power to take it back again! As we ponder today's Scripture reading, may we all know that Jesus was in complete control the whole time.
He gladly became sin for us so that we could become the righteousness of God! He willingly bore our sickness and disease so that we could be healed by His stripes. He intentionally offered up His holy life so that we could be free from our sinful life. May your heart be filled with rejoicing knowing that the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords intentionally laid His life down for you!
Hebrew 2:8-11
8 You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that he subjected all things to him, he left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we don’t see all things subjected to him, yet. 9 But we see him who has been made a little lower than the angels, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for everyone. 10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many children to glory, to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 11 For both he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one, for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brothers (WEB)
