THE GOD OF ALL COMFORT
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (WEB)
In this passage of Scripture, our Heavenly Father is called the God of ALL comfort. No matter what you are going through, His heart of compassion will comfort you so that you can comfort others with the same comfort you received from God.
The truth is that we all need to be comforted. As little children, when we fell and scraped our knees, we looked to our parents to comfort us. As we grew older, the world system taught us not to be so vulnerable when we got hurt, so we looked for comfort in other places... because we all still need comfort.
While both men and women can express comfort, it is predominantly feminine. To illustrate the point, think about when you were little. Who would you most likely run to when you needed comfort? ...Mom or Dad? Most of us would answer... mom. Since God is the source of ALL love, He can love us with the comforting, nurturing heart our mothers often express.
But the reality is, if we don't receive comfort from the Father of Compassion, we will seek it elsewhere. Some of us seek it in addictions, others in performance, and yet others in religious striving. God completely understands why we do such things; He created us with the need to be comforted.
My prayer today is that each of us would have the freedom to run into the arms of our heavenly Father day or night whenever we need to be comforted. For Psalm 34:18 tells us... Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart and saves those who have a crushed spirit. (WEB)
