WHEN WE WAIT, WE INHERIT
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath. Don’t fret, it leads only to evildoing. 9 For evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for Yahweh shall inherit the land. (WEB)
In the world system, to make gains in life, you have to initiate. In the kingdom of God, waiting on the Lord and trusting in Him is the best way to promotion. Now I am not saying that we become lazy or inactive as Christians, but rather to adopt a heart posture where we are always sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives (Romans 8:14).
When we wait upon God, we yield control of our lives into His loving hands. When we wait upon the Spirit to lead us, we acknowledge the Lordship of Christ and we stop trying to be the captain of our own ship. In today's Scripture reading, we are told to stop being angry and not to worry about life. Could you imagine how much free space you would have in your thought life if you didn't have to worry?
Some of us might not think it is even possible to not worry. Some of us have even been taught that worry is a sign of responsibility. When I was growing up, I thought if I didn't worry, then I didn't care. In Matthew 6:24, Jesus tells us to not even take one thought for our life. He goes on to say that because of our Father's great love for us, He will look after all our needs so we don't have to.
My prayer today is that each one of us would become more convinced that we have a Father in heaven who is truly working on our behalf in every circumstance. I pray that the peace that passes our understanding would settle upon each one of us like a warm blanket and bring rest to our busy minds. May we all see the incredible joy there is in ceasing from our own works, and learning to rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him so that we can inherit the promised land.
Wait for Yahweh. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. (WEB)
