1 John 3:1
Behold, how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him. (WEB) This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. It is a rock-solid promise for every person who has ever received Christ. Behold what great love the Father has lavished on us... that we should be called His kids (my paraphrase). There is no higher honor that could be given to us than this. We have not only been adopted into God's everlasting family, He has actually given us His very seed (1 John 3:9). We came from Him and are joint heirs with our Elder Brother Jesus now! (Romans 8:15-17) If this doesn't get us excited, I don't know what else will. There are not many exclamation marks (!) used in the Bible, but this is one passage where the NIV Bible uses two of them. Here is the first part of 1 John 3:1 from the NIV Bible... See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! My prayer today is that we would know that we are God's children NOW... not just when we go to heaven. May we know this truth not only in our minds, but in our hearts as well. We are called children of the living God! Romans 8:15-17 15 For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God; 17 and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.
