THE WORKS OF THE FATHER
38 and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: 39 and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their good, and of their children after them: 40 and I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from following them, to do them good; and I will put my fear in their hearts, that they may not depart from me. 41 Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul. There are many Scriptures in the Old Testament that give us an insight into the heart of God for His people. Before the cross, the promises of God were primarily for those of the nation of Israel. However because of the sacrifice of Jesus two thousand years ago, Gentiles and Jews alike have access to all the promises of God (in Christ) in both the Old and New Testaments.
In today's Bible reading from Jeremiah, we read of God's desire for His people. He longs for the day when His people will know that they really belong to Him and that He belongs to them. His heart is for us to know that He has made an everlasting covenant towards us to only do good for us, for this is His delight.
Many of us struggle to see God in this light. Many still struggle with a perception of God that portrays Him as distant and angry and ready to judge us the moment we slip up. Praise God that this is not the truth! Jesus paid the once and for all complete price so that we all could be fully reconciled to our Father so that every promise in the Bible would apply to us.
Our Father's heart is to joyfully plant us into a wonderful land with all His heart and His soul. My prayer today is that the blinders would come off all of our eyes so that we could truly see who we are in Christ, not just in eternity, but right now.
26 For you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to promise.
