THE SPIRIT OF SONSHIP

Romans 8:15-17
15 For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God; 17 and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him. Every believer who has ever received Christ has received the Spirit of adoption as Paul wrote in today's Bible passage. The NIV version of the Bible translates this phrase... the Spirit of Sonship. Every one of us carry within us the Spirit of God that cries "Abba! Father!" which is an Aramaic word that is like a little child calling out to his or her papa.

If you are struggling to really know that you are a child of the living God, just open up your heart to the Spirit of God that lives in you and ask Him to show you who you are. It is His passion to bear witness with your spirit that you belong to your Father. The Holy Spirit that has made His home in you wants you to know that you are an heir of God and a joint heir with Jesus Christ.

This revelation is simply too wonderful for us to grasp in our own understanding. It takes a revelation from the Spirit of God for this to become more real each day. My prayer today is that we would all know by the Spirit's witness in our hearts that we are God's children, for we all carry in our hearts the Spirit of Sonship already.

Galatians 4:6-7
6 And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!” 7 So you are no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. (WEB)
