John 17:1-2
1 Jesus said these things, and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may also glorify you; 2 even as you gave him authority over all flesh, he will give eternal life to all whom you have given him. (WEB) In John 17, we get the privilege to listen in on the prayer that Jesus prayed to His Father just before He went to the cross. In this intimate discourse between Son and Father, we see Jesus' heart not only for His Father, but for His disciples as well. In today's Scripture passage, Jesus asks His Father to glorify Him so that He in turn could glorify His Father. The thought that this process included Jesus' sufferings on the cross defies our ability to comprehend it. Yet, Jesus endured the shame for the joy that was set before Him... and that was our salvation. Through Jesus's death, burial and resurrection, our Father made a way to prepare a Bride for His Son. And through this same once and for all sacrifice, Jesus was able to provide His Father with many glorious children (Hebrews 2:10). Both of their hearts were to honor each other in the process. My prayer today is that we would know that because of Jesus' death on the cross and His triumphant resurrection from the dead, we too are now caught up in the amazing love that exists between Father and Son through the Holy Spirit that lives within us. As our Father has predetermined to honor us by placing His own Spirit within us, may we in response, present our bodies as living sacrifices to honor Him. Romans 12:1-2 1 Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service. 2 Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.
