THE BODY HAS MANY MEMBERS

1 Corinthians 12:12-14
For as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all given to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. (WEB)

Every part of our body serves a different function. The function of the hand is completely different to the foot. Though each part is unique, they are all intended to function in harmony in order to help the body as a whole do what it is intended to do.

In the same way, each person in the Body of Christ is completely unique in their own right. In Ephesians 2:20, the Apostle Paul tells us that we are all His workmanship. One translation calls each one of us God's 'masterpiece'. The problem that we sometimes encounter in church life is that we feel threatened when other brothers and sisters are different than us. Sometimes we mistake the concept of unity for sameness.

The reality is that our God and Father created each one of us differently and it is only as each part plays its special role that we can see the true beauty of the Body of Christ. I am not advocating a diversity that embraces different ways to God, for their is only one way and that is through our elder brother Jesus Christ.

But in Christ, in His body, we all perform a different role. My prayer today is that we would see the uniqueness of how our Father created us. He didn't create us to conform into someone else's image, He created us to be a unique expression of Him alone. May we all experience a new freedom today to simply be the masterpiece that our Father intended.
