John 14:7-8
7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on, you know him, and have seen him.” 8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." (WEB) Jesus just finishes telling His disciples that He is the way back home to His Heavenly Father in verse 6. One of Jesus' disciples Philip, responds with the words... "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." In the past 16 years, I have heard from thousands of people around the world who have expressed the same cry in their heart (whether they knew it or not). Through the ministry of FathersLoveLetter.com, the message of God's Father heart for the world has touched many people in many countries. No matter what culture people have been from, their need has always been the same... "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.". The need to be loved by the One who created us is universal. It transcends our cultural, social, financial or educational status. We all have been searching for a Father's love our entire lives. While some of our parents were able to do a pretty good job of being a foreshadow of our great Father in heaven, most have unfortunately fallen way short of helping us know what a perfect Father (Matthew 5:48) is like. Some of the most driven and successful people in the world have accomplished what they have accomplished by the overwhelming desire to fill the unmet need of a father's love. We all have tried to fill this need in whatever way we could. An unbalanced obsession with relationships, education, religious striving, addictions, promiscuity, etc., are all an indication of an unmet need in the deepest place in our hearts to be loved completely and unconditionally. My prayer today is that each one of us would know that God created us to be in an intimate relationship with Him as Father. We were destined to live forever as His beloved children and our Elder Brother Jesus Christ became the way for each one of us to find our way home. May we all resonate with the words that Philip spoke two thousand years ago and say... Lord Jesus, show us the Father and it will be enough! John 16:25-27 25 I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. But the time is coming when I will no more speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name; and I don’t say to you, that I will pray to the Father for you, 27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from God.
