REST IN YAHWEH

Psalm 37:7
Rest in Yahweh, and wait patiently for him. Don’t fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen. (WEB)

The first line in today's Bible reading is very profound and one of the hardest things for most of us to do. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him. In a world system that celebrates our own independence and initiative, resting and waiting are not always easy to do. David goes on in this psalm to tell us not to worry about those who seem to prosper around us, even though they aren't the most honest of people.

Learning to rest is not about becoming lazy or inactive. Learning to rest is about developing a posture of heart that lives a life in complete dependence on God to work through us. Though Jesus had many demands put on Him during His three year ministry on earth, He always moved from a place of being in rest, waiting on His Father to guide Him.

Many times in the gospels, we are told of His complete dependence on His Father. He only did what He saw His Father doing. He only spoke the words He heard His Father speaking. His heart was always at rest while He waited. My prayer today is that our God and Father would give us the wisdom to know how we can enter into a deeper place of rest within our souls than we have ever known before.

As Hebrews 4 tells us, sometimes we have to work to enter into the rest that God desires for us as it is not native to the way we were brought up. May God give us the grace today to enter into His rest and cease from our own works so that we can truly wait upon Him, so that He can renew our strength.

9 There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his. 11 Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience. (WEB)
