John 6:32-33
32 Jesus therefore said to them, “Most certainly, I tell you, it wasn’t Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven. 33 For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” (WEB) We cannot survive without physical food. In New Testament times, bread was considered the staple of their diet. That is why Jesus told us in the Lord's prayer that we can ask our Father to 'give us this day our daily bread'. Without access to daily bread, we would all starve. In today's Bible passage, Jesus calls Himself the true bread from heaven sent down from the Father. Jesus is called 'The Bread of Life' in another Scripture. In yet another passage, Jesus tells us that we are called to feed on Him so that we can have everlasting life. In Matthew 7:7-11, Jesus also refers to our Heavenly Father's desire to give us bread. Here is what He says... 7 “Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. 8 For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or who is there among you, who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! (WEB) Our God and Father has sent the bread from heaven down to the earth in order for us to receive our daily sustenance. The Bread of Life that we are called to feast on is Jesus Himself! My encouragement to you today is that you would know that it brings great joy to our Heavenly Dad's heart for us to be nourished by His bread from heaven every moment of every day of our lives.
