LITTLE ONES AND THEIR ANGELS

Matthew 18:10
See that you don’t despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven. (WEB)

Earlier in Matthew 18, the disciples are arguing about who will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. In response to their bickering, Jesus told them to bring a little child to Him. His answer to who would be the greatest in the kingdom was simply presenting the little child they brought to Him to the entire crowd.

He told His disciples in verses 3 and 4... “Most certainly I tell you, unless you turn, and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.4 Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. (WEB) Jesus goes on to say that there will be serious consequences for those who cause these little ones to stumble.

I believe that Jesus was not only referring to literal little children in this passage, but for all those who would humble themselves and embrace a childlike heart. If that is indeed the case, then today's passage of Scripture may apply to us as well. I have not done much studying on angels, but I do know from Hebrews 1:14 that they are called ministering servants to the heirs of salvation.

I truly believe that the smaller we can become in our hearts towards God the bigger He becomes on our behalf. I believe that He has given His angels charge over us to minister to us and help us when we need them as it says in Psalm 91:11. I believe that it is these same angels who are beholding the face of our Father in heaven. What a lovely picture!

My prayer today is that we would be encouraged to know that our heavenly Father has made available to us all the resources of heaven to help us in our Christian walk. May this thought bring great comfort to every believer who embraces a childlike heart.

Psalm 91:9-12
9 Because you have made Yahweh your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, 10 no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. 11 For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. 12 They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone.
