HELP IN OUR WEAKNESS

Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered. 27 He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit’s mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God. In today's Bible passage, we read how the Spirit of God helps us in our weakness. While many of us would rather be strong, weakness is a foundational pillar of the Christian life. We read in 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 that God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

When we are weak, we are painfully aware of our inability to manage life on our own. When we are weak, we need to live a life completely dependent on the Godhead for our strength. The Apostle Paul received a revelation of weakness in 2 Corinthians 12 when he was asking God to remove a thorn that was in his flesh. We don't know what that thorn actually was, but in response to his prayer, Jesus appeared to him and said these words (2 Corinthians 12:9)... “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (WEB)

After Paul discovered that real power is perfected in our weakness, he made this declaration in the last part of the same verse... Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me. (WEB) The truth is when we are weak, then we are strong. How are we made strong? The Spirit of God helps us in our times of weakness!

It is the indwelling Holy Spirit that intercedes on our behalf when we don't know what to pray. It is the Spirit of the Son within us that tells us that we are children of God and causes us to cry "Abba Father!". It is the Spirit of our Father who will speak through us when we need to bring a witness to those around us.

The more that we are aware of our weakness, and even embrace our weakness, the more we will see that when we are weak, then we are strong. May the love of God dismantle anything in our life that causes us to be afraid to be weak, vulnerable and completely dependent on the life source of Almighty God that has made His home within our hearts.
