John 5:43-45
43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you don’t receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him. 44 How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God? 45 “Don’t think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses, on whom you have set your hope. (WEB) The words that Jesus spoke in today's Bible passage were directed at the pharisees and religious leaders of the day. He came representing His Father and they did not receive Him. The reason why they didn't receive Jesus was because they were more interested in the glory that they received from one another rather than the glory that came from God Himself. The end result of looking horizontal for affirmation rather than looking vertical is that we get ensnared in trying to please men rather than God. My prayer today for each one of us, is that we would all desire the glory that comes from the Father rather than the empty shell of glory that comes through people pleasing. May we all be free from the entanglements of trying to live up to other people's expectations and be completely free to reflect the glory that comes directly from our Elder Brother. 2 Corinthians 3:18 18 But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit.
