FATHER FORGIVE THEM
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” (WEB)
No greater words of love were ever spoken on behalf of mankind than the words that Jesus cried out to His Father when He was hanging on the cross. While our generation wasn't present to nail our Lord and Savior to that tree, the depravity of the unredeemed human condition in all of us is equally as guilty as they were.
Every person who ever lived has needed to hear these words from Jesus Christ. "Father, forgive (insert your name), for they don't know what they are doing." It is the power of these words taken to heart that will cause us to know that we are truly forgiven from all of our sin.
It is the power of these words that will cause us to know that the shed blood of Jesus has covered all our past sins, our present sins and our future sins. It is the power of these words that will give us the courage to forgive others and to forgive ourselves for the wrongs we have done.
My prayer today is that these words would ring afresh in all of our hearts. We are forgiven... forever! May the power of the cross never become just an old part of our own story. My hope is that this revelation of God's love would be as fresh for us today as it was the day that we got saved.
24 For Christ hasn’t entered into holy places made with hands, which are representations of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest enters into the holy place year by year with blood not his own, 26 or else he must have suffered often since the foundation of the world. But now once at the end of the ages, he has been revealed to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment, 28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, without sin, to those who are eagerly waiting for him for salvation.
