Luke 6:36
“Therefore be merciful, even as your Father is also merciful. (WEB) In today's Scripture passage, Jesus invites us to be merciful just as our Heavenly Father is merciful. It is amazing to me to think that we are called to be conformed into the image of Jesus (Romans 8:29) who is in turn, the exact image of His Father (Hebrews 1:3). Before you get too overwhelmed with the thought that it is YOUR responsibility to muster up mercy in the same capacity that God is merciful, I want to encourage you to relax! The very character and nature of your heavenly Father already lives in you through the abiding presence of His Holy Spirit. It is God in you that will do the work as the Bible says in Philippians 2:13... For it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure. (WEB) Our only job is to yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:14) in our lives and thus be a reflection of the glory and mercy of Jesus to all who are around us. It is now in your spiritual DNA to be merciful because your Father in heaven is merciful. May God give us the grace today to receive the mercy that He has for us in a greater measure than ever before so that we could in turn show His mercy to those around us. Ephesians 5:1-2 1 Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children. 2 Walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance.
