Ephesians 3:14-21
14 For this cause, I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inward man; 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know Christ’s love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to him be the glory in the assembly and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. (WEB) In many places in the world, this coming Sunday is the day that we honor our fathers. While it is a wonderful tradition to thank God for our earthly fathers on Father's Day, I can't think of a more appropriate day to honor our heavenly Father as well. In today's Scripture reading, the Apostle Paul starts by saying that he bows to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ from whom every family in heaven and earth derives its name. There wouldn't be fathers apart from our role being patterned after our Great Father in heaven. Every man who has been honored with the title 'father' carries a very significant role in today's society. While none of us dads are perfect by any stretch of the imagination, we have been called to a very high calling as our office of 'father' represents Almighty God. Father's Day can be a day of celebration and it can be a day of grieving. Either grieving the fathers who have passed away, or grieving the father's we have never had. My prayer today is that anyone who feels fatherless, would know that God promises to be a Father to the fatherless (Psalm 68:5). May we all be rooted and grounded in the love of God and may we be strengthened in our inner being to grasp how deep and how wide and how long and how high is the love that our Father has for us in Christ. May we all be filled to the full measure of the fullness of God today and know that every day is 'Father's Day' for our Heavenly Dad. 2 Corinthians 6:18 And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” (NIV) Comments are closed.
