A HABITATION IN HEAVEN

2 Corinthians 5:1-4
1 For we know that if the earthly house of our tent is dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens. 2 For most certainly in this we groan, longing to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven; 3 if so be that being clothed we will not be found naked. 4 For indeed we who are in this tent do groan, being burdened; not that we desire to be unclothed, but that we desire to be clothed, that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. In today's Scripture passage, Paul contrasts the difference between our earthly house (our human bodies) and our heavenly habitation. He speaks of the longing that is in the heart of the believer for that great and glorious day when we will all see Jesus face to face.

I don't know about you, but I think of heaven often. Though I am happy with my life here on earth, it gives me much comfort and hope to think of my eternal destiny as a beloved child of the living God. I think it is natural for us as Christians to long for the day when what is mortal is swallowed up by what is eternal.

Because our true citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), in many ways, we live as strangers and foreigners on this earth. The writer of Hebrews spoke of this when he said that the heroes of faith were not looking for an earthly city, but were seeking a city whose builder and maker is God (Hebrews 11:13-16).

Though we have a home secured for us in heaven, may we live our lives here on earth to their fullest! May the comfort of knowing that Jesus has already secured for each one of us a mansion in His Father's house (John 14:1-3) propel us on to share this good news with as many people as we can.

Since our Father is not willing that even one should perish (2 Peter 3:9), may we spend our time on earth wisely so that we might be a conduit of God's love to everyone we meet because His heart is that His house would be full.
