A COMPASSIONATE FATHER

Psalm 103:13-14
13 Like a father has compassion on his children, so Yahweh has compassion on those who fear him. 14 For he knows how we are made. He remembers that we are dust. (WEB)

It was God's intent that mothers and fathers would be a foreshadow of His everlasting love for us. That is why King David makes the connection between a loving earthly father who has compassion on his children and the love that God has for us. Unfortunately many people have not had positive experiences with their earthly fathers so comparing God to a father is not always helpful.

But the truth is that God is the perfect Father who loves us with a perfect love. The issue isn't with Him, the issue is with the broken father figures that we have experienced as a result of the fall. My prayer today is that Holy Spirit would restore the rightful image of Father God to each one of us. I pray that we would truly know that God is a loving Father who has compassion on His kids when they are hurting.

He doesn't judge His children or condemn them. In His heart, He remembers how He made Adam out of the dust all those years ago, and in remembering our human fraility, He has overwhelming compassion for us. My prayer today is that we would not run away from God when we are hurting, but we would run towards Him because He understands us through and through.
