THE SON CAN DO NOTHING BY HIMSELF

John 5:19-20
19 Jesus therefore answered them, “Most certainly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father doing. For whatever things he does, these the Son also does likewise. 20 For the Father has affection for the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does. He will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.  (WEB)

Today's Scripture reading is yet another example of the loving relationship that Jesus has with His Heavenly Father. He starts off by saying that He can't do anything apart from His Dad and then He says that He only does what He sees His Father doing. I can remember when my son was a little boy, he would intently watch what I was doing and try to copy it. Of course as his dad, I absolutely loved it when he did that and we had much fun during those times.

Jesus and His Father were so entwined in their hearts that if you were to look at Jesus, it was as if you were looking at His Dad (John 14:9). What an amazing love relationship exists within the Godhead, one toward another! In verse 20, we read of the Father's heart for His Son. I especially like the World English Bible translation which says... For the Father has affection for the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does.

Not only does Jesus continually look to His Father, but the Father is always looking to His Son with an affectionate heart! Because we are now in Christ ourselves, we too are caught up in this amazing love relationship. As Jesus was always about His Father's business, we too have the same mission and mandate on the earth. My prayer today is that we would all feel the embrace of the Trinity within us and around us in all that we do.

John 14:9-10
9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you such a long time, and do you not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How do you say, ‘Show us the Father?’ 10  Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I tell you, I speak not from myself; but the Father who lives in me does his works. (WEB)
