Galatians 3:16-18
16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He doesn’t say, “To seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “To your seed,” which is Christ. 17 Now I say this. A covenant confirmed beforehand by God in Christ, the law, which came four hundred thirty years after, does not annul, so as to make the promise of no effect. 18 For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no more of promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by promise. (WEB) Every promise that God made to Abraham was fulfilled in Christ. Since the promises were given to Abraham before the law was given to Moses, the first covenant trumps the second! Hallelujah for that! We are not under the law any longer but are free in Christ and heirs according to the promise. When we died to our old nature, we died to the law and all of the things that would keep us enslaved to it. We are now new creations in Christ and are called to live a completely free life. Since we are connected to Jesus, then all of the promises of the Abrahamic covenant are ours by virtue of our new royal position. My prayer is that each one of us would know that we are heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus now. We have a promised inheritance that will last forever. We are no longer slaves trying to keep every law to appease a difficult taskmaster. We are children of the living God who are even now seated in the heavenly realms with our elder brother Jesus Christ. May hope flood all of our hearts knowing that every promise that was made to Abraham is ours too simply because we are joined with the 'seed' of the promise... our big brother, Jesus Christ! Galatians 4:1-7 1 But I say that so long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a bondservant, though he is lord of all; 2 but is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed by the father. 3 So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental principles of the world. 4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law, 5 that he might redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of children. 6 And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!” 7 So you are no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
