FATHER'S GOOD GIFT

Luke 11:9-13
9 “I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened. 11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he won’t give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, he won’t give him a scorpion, will he? 13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?” (WEB)

The most precious gift that our Heavenly Father can give us is the gift of Himself.  Today's Bible passage tells us exactly that. Using the premise that God is the best Dad in the universe, Jesus encourages us to keep asking, keep seeking and keep on knocking at our heavenly Father's door. When we persist and don't give up, Jesus tells us that we will receive bread and not a stone!

In this particular case, Jesus is encouraging us to ask His Father for an outpouring of His own Spirit. He tells us that His Father enjoys giving good gifts to His kids and the gift of His own Spirit is the very best gift that He can give us! In Ephesians 5:18, we read... Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, (WEB) The Greek word for filled does not mean a one time event, but an ongoing filling, and re-filling, and re-filling....

Jesus tells us that out of our bellies will flow rivers of living water (John 7:38). Keep in mind that Jesus said that it would be a river and not a pond. In order for a river to continue to flow, it has to be fed by a greater source of water than itself. It is the same principle with us as we walk in the Spirit.

May we all cry out to our Heavenly Father for a fresh infilling of His precious Spirit today. May we all overflow in His loving embrace as we continually keep being filled with His Holy Spirit and may rivers of living water gush out wherever we go!
