Living in our Father’s house...

Psalm 27:4-5
4 One thing I have asked of Yahweh, that I will seek after, that I may dwell in the house of Yahweh all the days of my life, to see Yahweh’s beauty, and to inquire in his temple. 5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me secretly in his pavilion. In the covert of his tabernacle he will hide me. He will lift me up on a rock. (WEB)

David was a man after God's own heart. In my opinion, he was a man's man. He had the boldness to kill bears and lions, slay a giant and be a leader of a great army. In the midst of all this, he was a poet, a musician and a dancer. He certainly defied today's image of what we think being macho is all about.

One of the distinctives that made him a man after God's own heart was his love for the house of the Lord. David's primary desire was to live in Yahweh's house all the days of his life. His obsession was to spend every waking moment gazing upon the splendor of the living God.

In my opinion, the New Testament equivalent to this Scripture can be found in John 14:1-3. Jesus is preparing His disciples for His soon coming death and resurrection by comforting them with these words...

1 “Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many homes. If it weren’t so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. 3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also. (WEB)

Because of what Jesus did on the cross, we live for eternity in our Father's house. We don't only get to visit, but Jesus tells us that there is a special room for each one of us. Some translations call it a 'mansion'. My prayer today is that we would know that while the culmination of our journey will be seeing Jesus face to face when we die or He comes back, we would be comforted in knowing that there is a special place in our Father's heart that has already been prepared for each one of us now.
