3 This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ. (WEB)
We often think of the definition of eternal life as being a measurement of a period of time that lasts forever. Some believers think that eternal life actually starts when we end our physical life and pass onto glory. But in today's passage, Jesus tells us what eternal life is... And that is simply having a living, loving relationship with both God the Father and God the Son.
The reality is that we are living in eternal life right now. We don't have to wait for it to begin because it started the moment that we received Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. He is life itself. The good news is that now we get to grow in this glorious life by having a living, loving relationship with both Father and Son through the Holy Spirit.
My prayer today is that we would all experience the richness and the abundance of eternal life that Jesus died for us to live in... right now!
